During a City Council meeting Monday, September 13, Kevin Miller was appointed as Interim City Manager for the City of Foster City. Mr. Miller will fill the role he previously occupied before retiring in 2018 while a comprehensive search is initiated to identify a new, permanent City Manager. Under the decision, Acting City Manager Tracy Avelar will resume her full-time role as Police Chief.

Residents interested in the future of housing in Foster City are invited to join a Community Workshop. This Community Workshop is part of an ongoing engagement plan to seek the community’s input in Foster City’s 2023-2031 Housing Element Update process. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to learn about the Housing Element Update, the State mandate for the City to plan for approximately 1,896 new housing units, get informed on the next steps to analyze sites available for future housing, and participate in small breakout group discussions.

Foster City is establishing a set of design standards that will ensure multi-family and mixed-use developments are built in a way that the community can be proud of – and input is needed from residents. Community members are encouraged to provide feedback on the Objective Design and Development Standards for Foster City by Thursday, September 30.

At the August 25th meeting, the City Council appointed Police Chief Tracy Avelar as Acting City Manager, effective immediately, until such time as an Interim City Manager is identified. At the same meeting, the City announced that the City Council/Board has exercised its option to terminate the employment agreement with City/District Manager Peter Pirnejad.
