Field Training Officers (FTO)

Some police officers are specially trained to instruct new officers. They are known as Field Training Officers, or FTO's. To become an FTO, experienced Foster City Police Officers, who have shown exceptional leadership qualities, are selected to attend Field Training Officer School, where they learn to be instructors in the FTO Program.
 
The Field Training program is 16 weeks long (about 640 hours) for Entry-Level Officers, and can be as few as eight weeks (320) hours for Lateral-Entry Officers.

Report an Abandoned Vehicle

Public Streets

Foster City Municipal Ordinances require all vehicles parked on public streets be moved at least 1/10th of a mile every 72 hours or they are considered "abandoned" and are subject to citation and/or towing. The purpose of the law is to prevent vehicles from being stored on the street.

Traffic Bureau

The Traffic Bureau works closely with other City departments and community agencies to resolve traffic issues at the neighborhood level and to reduce the number of automobile, bicycle, pedestrian collisions, and incidents of drinking and driving. Traffic Officers accomplish this goal by using:

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is led by Field Operations Captain William Sandri.

The division is responsible for providing patrol services to the community. There are five patrol teams routinely staffed by a Sergeant, Corporal and up to five officers who provide front-line police services 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

Youth Services Bureau

The emphasis of the Foster City Police Department's Youth Services Bureau is to work in coordination with the youth of Foster City, the Schools, and other county agencies. The Youth Services Bureau consists of one Officer. The Youth Services Bureau offers the following programs and services:

Requesting a vacation house check does not guarantee that a burglary or other crime will not occur at your residence, and it is only intended to be a request for the Foster City Police Department to check your home periodically, based upon the availability of an officer. No vacation checks while the homeowner is gone from the home are guaranteed. No additional police response or protection is being guaranteed by requesting a vacation check, other than normal police services and protection which is provided to the general public. Consequently, it is recommended that you make every effort to safeguard against losses including securing of high value property, using proper locking devices, alarm systems, etc. In addition, our FCMO states that vehicles parked on the street after 72 hours may be considered "Abandoned Vehicles." Consider parking your vehicle in the driveway or arrange someone to move your vehicle in your absence.
