UPDATE ON PREVENTIVE MEASURES & CITY SERVICES

The City of Foster City continues to work closely with the County of San Mateo and neighboring jurisdictions to monitor and respond to the evolving novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and its potential impacts. Maintaining the safety and health of our community and City staff remain our utmost priority. We are carefully reviewing the latest recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the San Mateo County Health Officer as we evaluate next steps.  The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and San Mateo County Health remain the best resources for current information about the COVID 19, and information is available at www.cdc.gov or www.smchealth.org/coronavirus.

The City recognizes the County Health Office or CDC recommendations could change over time and are currently working with staff on a variety of contingencies. We appreciate your support and cooperation during these uncertain times as we work together to maintain the well-being of our community.

Public Meetings:

In an effort to reduce the risk of spread of infectious disease, the City is implementing a number of precautionary measures as recommended by the CDC and County Health Office. This includes exercising social distancing at City Council and Planning Commission meetings as well as within City operating facilities. Audience seats will be taped off at least six feet apart for attendees that wish to practice social distancing. Members of the public are encouraged to stream the City Council or Planning Commission Meetings live online at www.fostercity.org/fctv or on FCTV on Comcast Channel 27 and AT&T Channel 99. Meetings are also available for playback at www.fostercity.org/agendasandminutes.

Online/Remote City Services:

To reduce the number of in-person interactions, the City is also encouraging the use of a variety of services available online, over-the-phone, and/or over email. City staff are trained and prepared to assist in meeting your City needs. This includes the following:

Financial Services

Community Development

Public Works Maintenance & Parks Maintenance

The Foster City Access app is available to make it easy to report non-emergency issues from a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer. The City tracks these issues and will provide updates as they are acknowledged and resolved. Report an issue here: www.seeclickfix.com/foster-city-ca?locale=en

Other Impacts:

Based on recommendations by the County Health Officer, including the legal order recently issued on March 12 prohibiting mass gatherings of 250 or more persons, the City of Foster City has canceled a number of non-essential events and large gatherings. To see the latest updates, visit the City calendar at www.fostercity.org/calendar

Due to the rapidly changing situation, it should be noted that all meetings and events are subject to change. The City will continue to monitor and cancel meetings/events as necessary.

At this time, the Parks & Recreation Department will no longer be accepting any new facility reservation requests. If you are a group or individual with an existing reservation, please contact the City’s Parks & Recreation Department at (650) 286-3380 if you would like to consider any changes to your reservation. The City will be issuing refunds for voluntary cancellations. Future rescheduling of canceled reservations or events is not guaranteed and will be subject to availability.

Schools

Residents should check directly with the local school districts for information about schools. Both the San Mateo-Foster City Elementary School District and the San Mateo Union High School District have announced the transition of their schools and students to distance/online and at-home learning.
