Emergency Repairs for City's Water Main Break

  • 9 p.m. update, April 8: As of Monday evening, crews have completed the repair work necessary to fix the break in the water line that took place along E. Third Avenue in Foster City. As a result, service is restored to normal, water reserve levels will be replenished, irrigation practices can be reintroduced, and there will be no overnight water shutoff necessary. 
  • The City Council will have an opportunity at a future meeting to ratify the proclamation of local emergency that will make the City potentially eligible to receive governmental aid for the emergency response.

  • 4 p.m. update, April 8: Work to fix the leak is advancing as expected and optimism remains that service will be restored by 8 p.m. the evening of Monday, April 8. As a contingency, the potential need to shut down water service overnight from 10 p.m. tonight until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, remains. The City will continue sharing information on this matter periodically through the evening, with the next update expected tonight at 8 p.m.

 

  • 12 p.m., Monday, April 8: At approximately 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 7, a break in the City’s main water line was discovered along E. Third Avenue north of Foster City Boulevard. City staff responded immediately and with the assistance of a contracting firm, work began to locate and fix the leak.
  • Currently the City is drawing water from its reserves and staff are monitoring use and storage levels. There is also a connection to an external supplemental water supply.
  • The public is asked to limit water usage to the best of their ability during this time.
  • There will potentially be a water shut off between 10 p.m. tonight and 7 a.m. tomorrow. Residents are asked to plan their water usage accordingly.
  • The City has declared a proclamation of a local emergency related to the water pipeline break, which will make the City eligible to request govermental aid for the emergency response.
