DEFINITION:
Under immediate supervision, provide marketing and videography/photography assistance to the Foster City Public Engagement Communications Team, and work closely with the Communications Director on conceptualizing, content creating, filming, processing, and editing of short film projects related to public engagement and outreach efforts for Foster City. Capture high resolution, high quality images of Foster City and its infrastructure to create a stock photo database. The intern will assist with other assignments as needed.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, FEATURES, REQUIREMENTS:
This is a part-time/hourly classification. The Videographer will assist the Communications Department and Public Engagement Communications Team with creating and editing video and photography projects as well as assist with the day-to-day Communications Department functions.
 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:
Receives direct supervision from the Communications Director. May receive direct supervision from multiple City staff depending on assignment.
 
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Use technical skills to shoot interviews, on-location segments, process and edit footage as directed by the Communications Director. Film public programs, major events, marketing content, B-roll for public engagement and community outreach initiatives. Transport, setup and operate video equipment for coverage of events and other productions. Plan and coordinate the logistics for video shoots, including arranging for transportation, equipment and crew. Prepare, create or edit scripts, shot lists, storyboards and other documents used for production and post-production planning. Create an archive of B-roll and video footage. Shoot photographs in studio and field environments. Create an archive of stock photos for City use.

Work with the Foster City Public Engagement Communications Team to update the strategic marketing plan for various projects. Participate in the preparation of advertisements, press releases surrounding public outreach events, web page materials, and promotional brochures that target different groups, educational signage, newsletter articles and columns, and the development and staffing of outreach activities at various venues. Other tasks may include assisting with organizing and promotion of city-wide events such as Art and Wine Festival, Fourth of July, and collaborative programs with other city departments to promote public awareness and engagement.

Perform outreach, office, clerical and record keeping functions using email and MS Office computer applications and perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 
Knowledge of:  City services and programs; principles and practices of marketing, videography, and public outreach.
 
Ability to:  Work proficiently with Microsoft Office, including effective use of Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Microsoft Publisher and Adobe Illustrator. Ability to deliver videos with cuts, graphics, sound and other elements. Write clearly and concisely for a variety of audiences. Communicate effectively orally. Prepare public presentations for a variety of audiences including the community, service organizations and volunteers. Organize own activities and self-motivate. Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions. Implement program plans. Function independently with minimal supervision. Effectively manage project assignments. Operate within budget allocations and meet deadlines. Establish effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Develop and maintain administrative databases. Maintain public and interpersonal relations in a group setting or in a one-to-one situation.
 
EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:
 
Education:  Possession of a degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Broadcasting or Electronic Communication Arts or other related media fields.
 
Experience:  Two (2) years of broadcast production experience. Substitution: Certificate from a recognized media production program; OR possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in broadcasting.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to move boxes, tables and chairs, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
 
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATION:
 
Licenses:  Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's license is desirable, but not required.
