Foster City, CA; April 7, 2021 – Foster City invites the community to stay involved and learn the latest updates regarding the Levee Improvements Project by participating in the next Community Update on Wednesday, April 21 from 5-6:30 PM. This meeting will focus on addressing recreational water use safety information and guidelines, in addition to general project news and updates.

The City, the Levee Improvements Project team and the contractor have been working together (in collaboration with other first responder organizations) with recreational water users to address questions and concerns regarding access and use of the bay area during construction.

“We understand that recreational water users from Foster City and the entire region are interested in maintaining access to the bay for activities like windsurfing, boardsailing, and kayaking,” said Project Manager Paul Nagengast. “We’ve been working hard to come up with solutions that address recreational water users’ questions while the contractor continues with forward progress on the project. Safety has been at the forefront and continues to be our number one priority.”

Last week, the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department rescued four kite surfers off Mariners Point Golf Course who were struggling to make it back to dry land due to unsafe wind conditions. Though there were no serious injuries, the City and Levee Improvements Project team continue to emphasize the importance of safety and caution while participating in recreational water activities in the area – particularly as the project construction advances. To share information and updates with the community, the City launched a page on the Levee Improvements Project website dedicated to recreational water use information.

In addition to the April 21 Community Update webinar, recreational water users have the opportunity to attend the Annual Boardsailing Safety Conference on Saturday, April 10 from 10:00 AM. - 12:00 PM at Baywinds Park, hosted by the Foster City Boardsailing Community. Representatives from the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department and other local first responders will be in attendance.
