Foster City City Council and the Levee Improvements Project team gathered near Bridgeview Park on April 30 to commemorate the installation of the final sheet pile in Phase 2 of the project, from Shorebird Park to the San Mateo Bridge. The sheet pile installation began in early March in tandem with the Phase 3 closure from the San Mateo Bridge to Anchor Road.

“The City is proud to mark this significant milestone and celebrate the continued progress in the Levee Improvements Project,” said City Manager Peter Pirnejad. “The sheet piles will form the upgraded wall structure in this section of the levee, protecting our community for years to come. I would like to thank the project team for their hard work and the community for their support and patience.”

After Mayor Gehani provided opening remarks at the milestone event, Foster City City Council members took turns writing messages for future generations and signing their names on the final sheet pile. Mayor Gehani then drove the last Phase 2 sheet pile down to final grade.

“We are happy that the project is moving forward and is currently even running ahead of our projected schedule,” said Project Manager Paul Nagengast. “This project would not be possible without the community’s cooperation. As this important project continues, the team urges residents to stay out of construction areas and to help keep everyone safe.”

As construction activities continue, the community is reminded that the closed, fenced trail and staging areas are not safe for the public, and trespassing into fenced areas is prohibited at all times for everyone’s safety. Also please remember that bike lanes are for bicyclists only, and sidewalks are for pedestrians and joggers.

To learn more about the project, visit the project website, www.FosterCityLevee.org. Via the website, community members can see a construction timeline, view what the new levee will look like, read through Frequently Asked Questions, and even sign up for regular construction updates.
