The City of Foster City has released a new Sustainable Living Guide to help residents take simple, practical steps toward building a cleaner and more sustainable community. The guide provides suggestions for everyday actions residents can take at home, at work, and around town, with tips on energy and water use, transportation, waste reduction, and climate resiliency. It is designed to be approachable and useful, whether someone is just getting started or already making sustainable choices.

“This guide is about meeting people where they are,” said Community Development Director Sofia Mangalam. “It offers realistic ideas that fit into daily life while supporting Foster City’s long-term sustainability goals.”

Developed by City staff with support from the Citizens Sustainability Advisory Committee (CSAC), the guide aligns with Foster City’s Climate Action Plan and highlights local programs, rebates, and resources available to residents. Also available is a “Foster City Kids’ Guide to Living Green” activity and coloring book for children under age 10.

“Foster City residents care deeply about their community,” said Councilmember Phoebe Venkat, who serves as the Council liaison to CSAC. “This guide gives people clear, practical ways to protect our environment and strengthen our city for the future.”

The Sustainable Living Guide is available online at sustainable.fostercity.org. Residents with sustainability ideas or tips are encouraged to contact the City at sustainable@fostercity.org. For more information on Foster City’s sustainability programs, visit sustainable.fostercity.org.
