Residents and community members interested in helping shape the future of Foster City’s parks and open spaces are invited to attend the second Parks Master Plan Community Workshop on Wednesday, June 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Vibe Teen Center. Those in attendance at the event will have an opportunity to provide feedback on proposed park-specific upgrades and strategies to support open space conservation throughout the City.

The feedback provided at this workshop aims to further advance the Parks Master Plan, which was launched last year to guide the development, maintenance, and funding of the community’s parks, recreational facilities, and programs. The session will also help inform updates to the Parks & Open Space and Conservation elements of the City’s General Plan – a separate but parallel effort focusing on open spaces like parks and natural areas to provide recreational opportunities, environmental benefits, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.

This will be the second of two community workshops for the Parks Master Plan. At the first workshop, community members had the opportunity to propose potential improvements and upgrades to the parks system. Building on this initial input, guidelines and recommendations were developed along with proposed park improvements across Foster City now ready for review and feedback from those who enjoy the parks system.

“We have been working diligently throughout this process to establish a plan for upgrading our parks and open spaces which is reflective of our community’s needs and interests,” said Parks and Recreation Director Derek Schweigart. “This workshop will be a critical opportunity for our community to review this plan, provide input, and help us move forward with the process of creating an even more amazing parks system that will serve Foster City for generations to come.”

Please note that this event will take place at the same time as Off the Grid in Leo J. Ryan Park, so parking may be limited. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, grab a meal from the food trucks, then attend the workshop. Community members are invited to attend the entire two-hour session or drop in at their leisure. Light refreshments will be available at The Vibe as well.
