In alignment with the recommendation of federal and regional health officials, the City of Foster City is requiring everyone to wear face coverings indoors when visiting City facilities. The masking requirement will go into effect Thursday, July 29, at City facilities and comes in the immediate wake of an announcement from the CDC urging vaccinated people to wear face coverings indoors to protect against the Delta variant and prevent its possible spread.

As case rates rise locally, health officers throughout the Bay Area have recommended everyone wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. The County of San Mateo also implemented a requirement to wear face coverings indoors at all County facilities for employees and visitors earlier this week.

The City of Foster City reopened City Hall to the public Monday, July 26, for regular business hours between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday through Friday. Some counter hours are limited with services available by appointment only, and many other services are available online at https://www.fostercity.org/cityservices.

“While we are pleased to have in-person visitors again at City Hall, preserving our community’s health and safety is of paramount importance. Which is why we expect everyone to wear a mask when indoors at City facilities,” said City Manager Peter Pirnejad.

The City’s local masking requirement applies solely to City-operated facilities, which includes reopened City Hall and the Recreation Center when it reopens Monday, August 9. The requirement does not apply to businesses, other government agencies or private employers in Foster City, though those institutions are encouraged by local health officials to require face coverings as necessary.
