Safety makes Foster City a great place to live, work and play!

In 2013, Foster City had the second lowest incidence of violent crime and the fourth lowest incidence of property crime as compared to the other cities of similar size in California.

This chart compares Foster City's incidents of crime in 2013 compared with all 45 incorporated cities in California (including Foster City) that had a population of 25,000 to 35,000.  All data comes from the FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics.

In 2011, Foster City was named the 19th safest city in California by Safewise.com. In 2014, Foster City was named the 55th Safest City in America by Neighborhood Scout, a division of Location, Inc.

Definitions

  • Violent Crime:  Total numbers of murder and non-negligent manslaughter; forcible rape; robbery; and aggravated assaults.
  • Property Crime:  Total numbers of burglary; larceny-theft; motor vehicle theft; and arson.
