Foster City’s Levee Pedway users are advised that the City will begin a comprehensive repair of the Pedway this summer. The Phase I project will focus on repairs on the approximately four miles from the City limit with the City of San Mateo on East Third Avenue to the area near the intersection of Foster City Boulevard and Beach Park Boulevard.
Work is expected to begin the week of May 31, 2010 and will last for approximately 2 ½ months. The work will include repair of pavement failures followed by either repaving or seal coating of the asphalt surface. Sealing coating involves the application of a thin surface layer of sand with emulsified asphaltic oil.
The construction work will cause some inconvenience to users of the Levee Pedway. Sections of the Levee Pedway will require temporary closure to facilitate the work. The closures will be confined to specific sections that are being repaired and will be limited in duration in order to minimize disruption. Detours around construction areas may be set up where appropriate. Signs will be posted in advance of doing the work to advise the public of closures related to this work. Additionally, construction information will be posted on the City website.
The public is asked to exercise caution in the construction areas.
The City’s general contractor for this project is Dryco Company of Fremont. Work activities will normally take place Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM. However, there may be instances when work activities will need to take place outside the normal periods. Because of the extensive work required, the project is expected to take approximately 2 1/2 months to complete. However, weather or unforeseen conditions may affect the overall schedule.
The City appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to maintain and keep the pedway facility in good condition.
