The San Mateo County Sustainability Department and the City of Foster City have teamed up to hold a free Electronic Waste Collection and Household Item Donation event in collaboration with Goodwill Industries on Saturday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City Hall parking lot located at 610 Foster City Boulevard.
Residents who wish to participate must provide proof of residency in San Mateo County in the form of a driver’s license or a document with name and address, such as a utility or garbage collection bill.
Community members are encouraged to participate because electronics must be recycled properly – it's illegal to dispose of them in the trash. And household items deserve a second chance! This event is helping others while reducing waste.
Accepted electronics include small appliances such as microwaves, hair dryers, vacuums, and lamps without bulbs; radios, stereo components, phones, and cellphones; fax machines, copiers, printers, and scanners; TVs, DVD players, and VCRs; computers and computing accessories; as well as electronic video games and toys.
Accepted household items include clothing, shoes and accessories such as scarfs, ties, or hats; towels and decorative items such as pillows and artwork; dishes, cutlery, serving bowls and plates; and children’s books and toys.
Items that will not be accepted include batteries of any kind; fluorescent bulbs, tubes, and ballasts; large appliances such as stoves, dryers, washers, air conditioning units, refrigerators, or items containing freon; as well as bedding or heavily soiled clothing.
For more information about this event, please call (888) 442-2666 or email sustainability@smc.gov or visit sustainsmc.org/reuse to explore more recycling and reuse options.
