Residents and community members who enjoy the Foster City Recreation Center are encouraged to help share their thoughts on the design and features of the new facility by taking the community survey at https://surveyhero.com/c/fcrcrebuildoutreachsurvey. The deadline for taking the survey is Sunday, March 19.

Feedback provided in the survey will help determine the amenities offered in the new Recreation Center, which the City Council has agreed to rebuild by moving forward with a “build-to-budget” option with a not-to-exceed budget of $55 million.

The existing Recreation Center, located in Leo J. Ryan Park, is nearly 50 years old and necessary investments in infrastructure improvements are required to meet current structural, seismic, and programmatic needs, as well as emergency shelter readiness.

Those interested in knowing more about the project are also invited to attend one of the pop-up kiosks at community events such as Foster City Little League Opening Day from 8:30 a.m.  to 11:30 a.m. in Sea Cloud Park on Saturday, March 4 or the Holi Festival from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in Leo Ryan Park on Saturday, March 18.

“We hope our community members seize the opportunity to share their thoughts with us regarding this critical project,” said Parks and Recreation Director Derek Schweigart. “The input we receive will be vital in the effort to rebuild a vibrant, modern Recreation Center that meets the needs of our current and future residents.”

There will be an additional opportunity to learn and share thoughts about the project during the Community Open House at the Recreation Center on Wednesday, March 8, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. And there will be a series of public meetings discussing the project, for which more information can be found at www.rebuildtherec.org.

Construction of the Recreation Center Rebuild project is anticipated to begin in 2024 and will last for approximately two years.
