On Wednesday May 3, 2023 law enforcement members throughout San Mateo County will remember their fallen colleagues at a ceremony in honor of National Police Week and Police Officer Memorial Day.

Foster City Police Chief Avelar, the 2023 President of the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association, will serve as Master of Ceremonies at Wednesday’s event which will be held on the steps of the San Mateo County History Museum located at 2200 Broadway, Redwood City at 10:00 a.m.

This year, May 11, 2023 through May 16, 2023 is National Police Week.  In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as Peace Officer Memorial Day to commemorate all law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty. Each year the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association, together with the 100 Club of San Mateo County, conducts the Fallen Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony to honor those officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

The public and media are invited to attend the event which will include a wreath ceremony, posting of colors and presentations.
