Foster City Prepares for Rainy Season and Lowers the Lagoon to Winter Levels

For immediate release: November 1, 2023

The Foster City Public Works Department is preparing for the rainy weather.

The water level of the Foster City lagoon will be lowered from summer levels to winter levels on Wednesday, November 15. The City's Lagoon Management Plan sets standard lagoon water levels for winter and summer periods. Around mid-March, the lagoon level is raised to summer operating levels, and in mid-November, the lagoon level is lowered to prepare for potential winter storms.

In anticipation of the potential for yearly rainfall, a sandbag station will be available at the City Hall parking lot at 610 Foster City Boulevard starting the first week in November. Sand, bags, and shovels are provided so that Foster City residents and businesses can fill bags themselves. Residents and merchants can pick up a maximum of ten sandbags. The sandbag station will continue to be available throughout the winter storm season, but please remember that sandbags filled in previous years are reusable as well.

Get ready for the rainy season by clearing rain gutters, testing and restocking emergency supply kits, and reviewing preparedness tips here:  https://www.fostercity.org/publicworks/page/winter-storm-preparation-0

For questions, comments, or to request non-emergency services related to storms, such as fallen trees in the public right of way, please contact the Public Works Department at (650) 286-8140.
