For immediate release: October 24, 2022 (Revised October 26, 2022)

Contact: Community Development Department, 650-286-3225, planning@fostercity.org

Foster City community members are invited to participate and provide their input at the upcoming Joint City Council and Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, November 15 at 6:30 PM in-person or virtually. The first part of this meeting will include a study session to review comments that were received from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) on the Draft Housing Element and discuss potential strategies and changes to the Draft Housing Element to address those comments.

The second part of the study session will introduce several implementation actions included in the Draft Housing Element, including a General Plan amendment to clarify minimum and maximum densities in mixed-use zones, zoning actions that are needed to facilitate development on the housing sites identified in the Housing Element sites inventory, as well as other changes to bring the City’s zoning regulations into conformance with new state law requirements. These implementation actions will be considered at public hearings in December and January. A public hearing notice identifying the proposed actions will be available on the Housing Element update website in late November. City Council will ultimately consider adoption of the final Housing Element at a meeting in early 2023.

The Housing Element is a key planning document intended to guide Foster City's housing growth to accommodate the approximately 1,896 new housing units mandated by the State between 2023 and 2031. Community members can review the Draft Housing Element and HCD’s comments and offer their input by visiting https://engagefostercity.org/housing-element.
