Construction Advisory Notice: Dredging at the Lagoon Intake Structure Project (CIP 301-629)

For Immediate Release: August 23, 2017
Contact: Allan Shu, Engineering Manager, (650) 286-3271, ashu@fostercity.org

Starting September 1, 2017, the City's contractor Salt River Construction Corp. will begin dredging the Angelo Slough located near Sea Cloud Park. The water level and the water quality in the City's interior lagoon is controlled by allowing bay water to flow through the intake gates and pumping water out of the Lagoon Pump Station located at the Corporation Yard on East Third Avenue. Over the years, sedimentation has built up on the bay side of the intake gates, resulting in limited water flow into the lagoon. The dredging work will remove approximately 13,000 cubic yards of sediment to restore the channel back to the 1978 condition when it was last dredged. The contractor will use a clamshell bucket from a barge stationed on the bay side and load the dredge material onto vessels, which will then be transported to the Cullinan Ranch disposal site near Vallejo, CA. As part of this project, the contractor will also replace intake gates that have reached their useful lives.

During construction from September to mid-November, Bayfront Court residents may experience minor construction related noise. Residents may also experience increased odor emanating from dredging operations. To minimize inconveniences to the public, construction activities will be limited to the hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Access to the levee pathway will be maintained at all times. If you have any questions, please call the Public Works Engineering Department at (650) 286-3270.
