| DEFINITION: | 
| This is a full-time position assigned to coordinate a wide variety of recreation and leisure activities for various age groups. Position requires flexibility in working hours. | 
| DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, FEATURES, REQUIREMENTS: This is the entry-level class in the Recreation Coordinator series.  Employees within this class are distinguished from the Recreation Coordinator II by the performance of the more routine and standardized tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series. After receiving the appropriate training and guidance, employees at this level are expected to perform with a similar level of independent direction and judgment as a Recreation Coordinator II.   | 
| SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED: | 
| Position receives direct supervision from the Recreation Manager and may give supervision to part-time and seasonal recreation staff. |

| IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES: | 
| Under the direction of Recreation Manager and depending on the assignment, this position develops the Department’s quarterly brochureoversees contract classesdevelops, schedules, implements, supervises and evaluates major recreation and enrichment programs and special eventsprepares written reports, press releases and public relations materials, flyers and pamphlets for programsparticipates in the selection and training of staffcoordinates and supervises contract instructors, part-time employees, volunteers and outside agencies and organizationsattends and conducts training and staff meetingsassists in the preparation, monitoring and administration of Department and program budgets, including expenditure justificationmakes and implements operational decisions in accordance with City policies and procedurespromotes effective communication and positive working relationships with other City staff, members of the public, community groups and school district personneluses personal computers, including desktop publishing, registration, word processing, and other Citywide and Department-specific applications to promote activities and enrollmentprovides first aid or CPR in the event of an injury or medical emergency situationmaintains purchase orders and suppliesserves as staff liaison to certain Citizen Advisory Committeescoordinates programs and services with schools and community groupsprovides the Department with customer service with information and follow up to patrons and groups

| EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would qualify. A typical way would be:

| Education:  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Recreation and Leisure Studies or a related field. Equivalent of a BA degree in recreation and leisure or a related field. | 
|  | 
| Experience:  One (1) year paid, full-time experience in professional recreation work involving leadership; recreational programming, word processing, knowledge of Windows computer programs; and instruction to groups and/or individuals in leisure activity. | 
|  | 
| SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: |
