For immediate release: August 10, 2023

Contact: Foster City Police Department Lieutenant William Sandri, (650) 286-3300

On June 18, 2023, an unknown subject vandalized the Peninsula Sinai Congregation in Foster City by spray-painting the symbol and word for “Neuralink” and a backward swastika on the outside of the building.

Foster City Police Department (FCPD) used Critical Reach to communicate the facts of the vandalism to other law enforcement agencies in the County. On August 8, 2023, Burlingame Police Department (BPD) contacted FCPD detectives to advise they had three vandalisms of Tesla cars with the same spray-painted words. BPD had video of the suspect vehicle and through investigation was able to identify the suspect.

FCPD detectives interviewed the suspect who was in custody for the Burlingame charges, and he admitted to the vandalism at the synagogue. The Foster City case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution of the vandalism. The individual arrested for the Burlingame charges was 28-year-old former Foster City resident Yoichi David Suruki.

“This case is a great example of the collaboration between San Mateo County agencies. The graffiti on the synagogue was harmful and adversely impacted the congregation and the community, so solving this case was a priority.”
