As part of the Levee Improvements Project, the approximately 60 streetlights on the east side of Beach Park Boulevard from Shorebird Park to Bridgeview Park are scheduled to be removed beginning Tuesday, February 16 (weather permitting). Prior to the removal of the streetlights, Foster City is implementing mitigation measures such as temporary lights, and reflectors along the concrete K-rail on that street.

“The City recognizes that this is a disruption and inconvenience to the people who live on Beach Park Boulevard, and we’ve put measures in place to help ensure the continued safety of that area,” said City Manager Peter Pirnejad. “The Levee Improvements Project is a massive, complex undertaking that will ultimately provide better flood protection for our community, plus an enhanced Levee Trail, and I want to share a huge thanks to all residents for your patience and understanding as we work through this project together.”

To mitigate the removal of the streetlights, the City is directing the project contractor to install temporary lights at the intersections of Swordfish Street, Tarpon Street, Marlin Avenue, Gull Avenue, Sanderling Street, and Egret Street. The temporary lights will be installed prior to the removal of the existing lights. In addition, reflectors will be mounted on the K-rail along the east lane of the roadway.

The Foster City Police Department will be increasing its presence on Beach Park Boulevard, as it has been doing after the lane reconfiguration, to further enhance public safety. Motorists on Beach Park Boulevard are also urged to exercise additional caution when driving on this part of Beach Park Boulevard.

The streetlights, which are directly in the path of some of the Levee Improvements Project activities including grading and movement of construction equipment, must be removed to provide direct access to the construction area. New streetlights will be reinstalled toward the end of the project, following the completion of the levee earthwork operations (exact dates are to be determined).
