Notice of Upcoming Planning Commission Vacancy - Applications Due May 24, 2018

The City of Foster City is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the Planning Commission to fill one new full term from June 4, 2018 to May 31, 2022.  Applications will be accepted until Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 5:00 PM.

The Planning Commission consists of five residents of Foster City.  To be eligible to apply, a resident must be at least eighteen years old and must have continuously resided in the city for a period of at least three years immediately prior to submission of an application for appointment to the Planning Commission.  Community involvement in Foster City and relevant experience will be considered in evaluating applicants. Appointments are made by the City Council.  Planning Commissioners are compensated $269 per month and are eligible to participate in the City’s health benefits plan.

The Planning Commission plans and acts on the following: 

  • General Plan and General Plan amendments
  • Neighborhood and specific area plans
  • Environmental impact reports and negative declarations
  • Tentative subdivision maps
  • Planned Development permit applications for developments
  • Subdivision Ordinance exceptions
  • Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance amendments
  • Special studies and reports
  • Architectural Reviews and Use Permits for various properties

The Planning Commission Regular Meetings are the held 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month and Study Sessions, if needed, are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. These meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 620 Foster City Boulevard.

All applicants are invited to attend a Planning Commission meeting during which Planning Commissioners will be available to discuss the purpose and responsibilities of the Commission. 

Interested residents may apply by submitting an application form to the City Clerk stating qualifications including length of residence, community involvement, relevant experience, and objectives for desiring to become a member of the Planning Commission. To be considered for appointment, it is the policy of the City Council that all applicants attend the Council meeting in which their application will be considered. Attendance at this meeting is mandatory. The City Council will interview and formally appoint members to the Citizen Advisory Committee at its regular meeting of Monday, June 4, 2018. 

Appointees must file a Statement of Economic Interests form with the City Clerk within thirty (30) days of assuming office, as mandated by California State Law.
