On September 14, 2018, at 3:40 a.m., the Foster City Police Department received a call from a resident about two suspicious men wearing dark-colored hoodies and who were seen attempting to gain access into vehicles parked in the 300 Block of Boothbay Avenue. One of the men was seen entering a car. Officers from the FCPD responded to the area and proceeded to conduct a search for the two men. An officer located two men wearing dark-colored hoods over their heads, matching the description provided by the reporting person. The officer detained one man who was later positively identified as the one who entered the car. The second man evaded the officer by running away and hiding. Officers from the FCPD with the help of officers from the San Mateo Police Department conducted an extensive and thorough search for the second man but were unable to locate him. Consequently, the detained man was arrested for various criminal violations.

The arrested suspect is Burlingame resident, 23-year-old, Erik Sandoval, who was charged with attempted theft from a vehicle, tampering with a vehicle, prowling, concealing one’s identity while committing a crime, and conspiracy. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for the charges.

FCPD detectives are conducting further investigation to determine if Sandoval is connected to any other local crimes and to identify the second suspect.

The Foster City Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors to remove valuables from inside your vehicle and to lock it.  Not leaving valuables in your vehicle and locking it minimizes a criminal’s ability and opportunity to commit a crime.
