RethinkWaste.org and the City of Foster City have teamed up to hold a free electronic waste collection and community shred event on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the City Hall parking lot located at 610 Foster City Boulevard. The event is open for all Foster City residents to attend and no appointments are necessary.

Community shred: Consumer fraud and identity theft are becoming an epidemic in our communities. To raise awareness and promote prevention, community shred events give Foster City residents the opportunity to have their confidential documents destroyed on-site, free of charge. There is a limit of 3 boxes per household. Shredding will be offered until the hauling truck’s capacity is reached.

Electronic waste collection: It is illegal to dispose of electronics in the trash. Do the right thing and recycle your personal or business electronics and computer equipment for free.

Acceptable Items:

Camcorders, cell phones, chips and components, computers, computer monitors, connectors/cables, DVD players, fax machines, keyboards, lab equipment, fluorescent tubes/lamps (limit 5 tubes per residence), laptops, main frames, computer mice, optical drives, PC boards, printed circuit boards, printers, radios, scanners, servers, stereos, storage discs, tape and zip drives, televisions, UPS power supply units, and VCRs.

Unacceptable Items:

Household appliances (fans, floor heaters, smoke detectors, vacuum cleaners, etc.), kitchen appliances and large appliances (cooktops, dishwashers, microwaves, ovens, stoves, refrigerators/freezers), and household hazardous waste (motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, automotive batteries, latex paint, fluorescent lamps including compact fluorescents, household batteries).
