To continue offering programs and events in a responsible and family-friendly fashion, Foster City introduced a series of health and safety measures for the Anniversary Concert Series at Leo J. Ryan Park. In alignment with state health regulations for hosting gatherings during the pandemic, the City is requiring pre-registration, to allow for physical distancing and to manage crowd size. Temporary fencing was also installed as an additional safety measure to monitor event size.

Planning for the concert series started when California was still under a Shelter-in-Place order and the City was required to follow the State’s tiered Blueprint for a Safer Economy system. No additional guidance on holding community events was provided when State officials announced California’s reopening date of June 15, and the City’s plan for registration and fencing was already complete when health restrictions were eventually lifted.  The San Mateo County Health Department had also advised to event planners that if another spike in COVID-19 cases occurred, the City would then be required to adhere to social distancing and crowd control measures again. Keeping the measures in place ensures the City will avoid needing to cancel the event, should COVID-19 cases increase significantly.

“We are thrilled to be bringing back summer concerts and we appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation while we work to ensure great events like this are held in the safest fashion possible,” said City Manager Peter Pirnejad.

The concert series hosted as part of the City’s 50th anniversary celebration in the meadow at Leo J. Ryan will begin Saturday, July 17, with a performance by Rock Monsterz. The following Saturday, July 24, will feature pop group Power Play. The Touch of Class Band, a Motown ensemble, will perform Saturday, July 31. All shows will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Due to limited event capacity, pre-registration is required. Concert attendees may register for this event in two ways: paid reserved seating in socially distanced spaces throughout the meadow, or free general admission at the back of the meadow that will be first come, first serve. To register and reserve your spot, visit  https://www.fostercity.org/anniversaryconcerts.
