By day, Management Analyst ‘Andra Lorenz manages Foster City’s solid waste program and prepares contracts, budgets, and reports for the Public Works Department.  But when she gets home, she relaxes by creating various types of crafts, most notably her counted cross stitch pieces. When asked what inspires her, she laughs and says simply, “crafts appeal to my right brain after I’ve exercised my left brain all day at work.”

Her work will be on display as one of the 12 City employees who entered 33 pieces of art into the Foster City Employee Art Show, utilizing a variety of media, visual aesthetics, and styles. Works include paintings, photographs, sculpture, and other framed and 3D pieces. The free, non-juried show, which showcases original artwork from City inspectors, engineers, administrators, and more will be on display for the public’s enjoyment in the Foster City Recreation Center, 650 Shell Blvd. The show will run from Monday, April 29 until Friday, May 24, during the Center’s normal hours of operation from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. during weekdays and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. on the weekend.

“We have some very artistically talented staff,” said Marlene Subhashini, Assistant City Manager, who has also entered her 3D paper quilled artwork into the show. “This art show is a great opportunity to showcase to the public the rarely seen side of what our talented employees create outside of work while also engaging with them in a fun and meaningful way. Art is about storytelling, and this exhibit gives our employees a chance to tell another aspect of their story.”
