For immediate release: February 17, 2023

Contact: Community Development Department, 650-286-3225, planning@fostercity.org

The public is invited to review the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the Draft Housing Element and Safety Element Update project and provide comments by April 2 to planning@fostercity.org.

The Housing Element is a key planning document intended to guide Foster City's housing growth to accommodate the approximately 1,896 new housing units and buffer mandated by the State between 2023 and 2031. The Safety Element identifies public safety risks and creates a unique set of goals, policies, and implementation actions that address these risks. The DEIR discloses potential environmental impacts of the project including areas of significant impacts, potential mitigation measures to reduce impacts, and alternatives. The Housing Element and Safety Element Update initiative is a programmatic-level project and future development would be subject to project-specific level environmental analysis and would be reviewed and considered on a project-by-project basis.

The Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the Housing Element and Safety Element Update and related documents are posted at https://engagefostercity.org/housing-element.
