The time for winter celebrations has returned and Foster City is planning a series of community events to make the season brighter. Please note some of these events have limited allowable capacity and require advance registration, so please don’t hesitate to sign up.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland: On Saturday, December 4, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., Leo Ryan Park will be transformed into a magical, winter attraction. Featuring a festive trail of lights, charming wintery scenery, and photo opportunities galore, the Wonderland is certain to captivate all who stroll through it. Registration is required to attend, and the cost for admission is $3 per person (everyone under 2 is free). Register at https://registration.fostercity.org, click “Special Events” and select “Walking in a Winter Wonderland.” Be sure to add each person you are registering to your account so that you can purchase a ticket for everyone. The system will not allow more than one ticket per person. This event is expected to sell out, so those hoping to attend should register soon.

Tree Lighting: Join friends, family and neighbors on Wednesday, December 8, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., and get into the seasonal spirit at the annual Tree Lighting ceremony. Come see the tree at the on the lagoon side of the Recreation Center at 650 Shell Blvd. become illuminated with festive, colorful lights. The event will feature seasonal music, light refreshments, and a countdown to light the tree. There is a chance that the bearded fellow in the red suit may be planning an appearance as well.

Letters to Santa: The Foster City Parks and Recreation Department has made special arrangements with Santa to accept mail for the delivery to the North Pole!  The department’s magical North Pole mailbox will be placed in the Recreation Center lobby beginning Monday, November 15, during the weekday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Please note that weekend hours do vary for the building. Letters to Santa can also be placed in the blue mailbox located at the parking lot side entrance of the Recreation Center or letters can be mailed to:

Santa Claus
