Streets / Traffic

The Streets and Storm Drains division of the Foster City Public Works Department is responsible for:

  • design and maintenance of more than 2,000 street lights and 22 traffic signals in Foster City
  • periodic maintenance activities such as street resurfacing, upgrading traffic signals, and replacing traffic signals

The streets within Foster City are maintained in excellent condition through a combination of maintenance programs managed by the Public Works street crews and a bi-annual pavement project.

The streets identified to be included in the pavement program are identified through the use of a Pavement Management System. The program is used to:

  • enable the City to analyze the condition of the streets
  • prepare a resurfacing program as needed to maintain the high quality of streets within Foster City

Foster City has been recognized consistently by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) as having excellent overall street quality and as having one of the best maintained street systems in the MTC system.

For emergencies after regular working hours or on weekends and holidays call the Police Department at (650) 286-3300.
