Fire Department Hiring

If you have been trying to get a job as a firefighter, you know that the field is highly competitive. Firefighters enjoy a challenging work environment with good pay and benefits.

To work as a firefighter in Foster City you will need to be 18 years of age or older and possess the following minimum qualifications (there is no residency requirement):

1. Prior firefighting experience or completion of a Fire Academy;
2. Possession of a Class B California driver?S license prior to completion of probation;
3. Possession of a California Emergency Medical Technician I (EMT-1) Certificate;
4. Highly desirable - Possession of Paramedic Certification;
5. Highly desirable - Possession of 30 semester units in Fire Science or an Associate Degree

The hiring process includes a written test, an oral board interview, a physical ability test and an interview with the Fire Chief. An extensive background check is required.
