FAQ - I'm having problems with my landlord. Can the City help me?
Question: I'm having problems with my landlord. They want to raise my rent. They want to enter my home / apartment without my consent. I can't get my landlord to fix my leaky faucets. Can the City help me?
Answer: Unless the issue you are dealing with relates to enforcement of City laws and ordinances, your best bet may be to work with the professionals that can provide you the greatest assistance to resolve your problem.
The Landlord & Tenant Information & Referral Collaborative of San Mateo County has a wealth of information for tenants and landlords regarding their rights & responsibilities, resources, problem solving tips, and information about evictions.
Another resource is the Tri-County Apartment Association, which covers San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. They can serve as mediators with property owners regarding rent increases and other related issues.
The City has a contract with Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center, which provides mediation and conflict resolution services for little or no cost to you. Call them to find out how they can assist you in resolving the conflict with your landlord.
Check out each of these websites to see how they may assist you.
