FAQ - The Government Center
Question: What is the City Government Center?
Answer: The City Government Center replaced the previous City Administration building, City Council Chambers and Fire Station with new facilities and remodeled and expanded the existing Police station. The City outgrew its 41,000 SF facilities and needed approximately 25,000 SF of additional space to accommodate City functions housed in trailers since 1986. Additionally, many of the almost 30 year old building components and systems were beginning to fail, requiring expensive repairs.
In 1998 after extensive building condition analyses and cost studies, the City Council decided that replacing most of the existing City buildings with new facilities was the most cost-effective option. The Library/ Community Center remained but the entire area was landscaped to reflect concepts developed through the Community Center Master Plan and the Government Center Design Competition.
