Question: I'm starting a small business. Where do I apply for a Fictitious Business Name?

Answer: You must file a Fictitious Name registration with the County of San Mateo if you are using a name other than your own. Contact the County's Clerk-Recorder's Office for more information.

If you do plan on operating your business in Foster City, you will need to obtain a business license from the City. See further information under Doing Business / Permits.
