Travelers' Emergency Information System
"Radio Foster City" is on the air! By tuning your radio to 1680 kHz you will hear 24-hour information on upcoming City events, fire and police safety tips, and road closure updates. During times of an emergency, you will be instructed to tune to 1680 kHz to hear up to the minute safety information. All regular broadcasts will be preempted during an emergency. Shelter locations, shelter-in-home home lock downs, missing person information, traffic re-routing, and other information will be updated from the field by the officers on the scene.
Broadcasting with less than 10 watts of power and licensed as WPSH202, Radio Foster City's signal reaches from Hayward to the San Mateo hills, and from Redwood City to the San Francisco Airport.
This station was in the planning since 1991. The final FCC license approvals were received in early 2001, and the station hit the airwaves in September 2001. This is yet another example of the City's efforts to make this the safest City in the state.
