The City Council has scheduled a second Study Session to review and discuss its Smoking Ordinance.
Members of the public are invited to attend this Special Meeting scheduled for February 24, 2014, at 6:30 PM in the City Council Chambers, 620 Foster City Boulevard. The meeting will also be broadcast and recorded.
At this meeting, the City Council will consider whether changes should be made to the City's Smoking Ordinance, such as expanding the outdoor and indoor areas where smoking should be banned or prohibiting smoking during City-sponsored events.
Foster City last updated its smoking ordinance in 1996 when it prohibited the sale of cigarettes in vending machines and self-service displays. State law restricts smoking in indoor work spaces and in and around all government buildings. The City has further restricted smoking in some outdoor restaurant seating and has asked for the public's voluntary compliance with a non-smoking policy in the City's parks and at special events like the Arts and Wine Festival and Fourth of July Celebration. The City Council previously held a Study Session on this topic on September 9, 2013.
This second Study Session will allow the City Council to have open public dialog regarding this matter and hear from members of the public regarding this important public policy issue. No decisions will be made at the meeting, but based on the discussion, staff may be directed to prepare ordinance changes for future City Council action.
All interested members of the public are invited to attend the meeting. The meeting will also be broadcast on Foster City TV, Comcast Channel 27, ATT Channel 99 or streaming at www.fostercity.tv. Comments on this subject may be forwarded to the City Council in advance of this meeting – City Council, 610 Foster City Boulevard, Foster City, CA 94404 or email@example.com.
