While Brewer Island Elementary School has been open since July 31, the remaining Foster City schools will open on August 28. Police Chief Matt Martell reminds motorists to drive carefully and pay special attention when driving around schools. Remember to obey the flashing red lights on schools busses and always yield the right of way to pedestrians.

Parents driving students to school should make every effort to approach the school so their child can exit from the passenger side of the car, directly on to campus. To assist with traffic flow and improve safety, drivers should not make U-turns on residential streets around the schools. Parents and students are urged to use available crosswalks and wait for assistance from crossing guards, where available.

It's up to you to protect our children while they are going to and from school, so please slow down and let's make this a safe school year.

MATT MARTELL

CHIEF OF POLICE
