For Immediate Release: March 17, 2016
Contact: Jennifer L. Liu, Director, (650) 286-3390,
The City is seeking public input regarding the design of CIP 655 Lawn Conversion and Bocce Ball Court Expansion Project adjacent to the Recreation Center. The Parks and Recreation Committee is inviting the public to its meeting on April 6, 2016 at 6:30 PM where this topic will be discussed and input and feedback can be given. The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers, 620 Foster City Boulevard.

The City has hired Verde Design, Inc., a park planning and landscape architectural firm, to assist in engaging with the community to identify and prioritize design alternatives for the project. Some design concepts that have been proposed for discussion include:
  • Integrating the lawn conversion and bocce courts into Leo J. Ryan Park as a whole and with the existing Recreation Center and the VIBE Teen Center buildings and adjacent site facilities
  • Appealing to various park users as an extension of existing Leo J. Ryan park elements
  • Considering the development across the street (Foster Square) and housing elements to draw new residents to utilize the space
  • Eliciting a park-like feel that complements the existing structures within Leo J. Ryan Park
  • Creating a space intended to be inviting for all while also creating separate space for bocce court use
  • Including features to attract various forms of activity – a seating area for gathering, an open area to walk through, an active area for bocce ball, etc.
  • Using building materials and styles appropriate to complement Leo J. Ryan Park
