On Monday, September 19, 2016, the City Council of Foster City approved the City’s Economic Development Strategic Plan. Created by the Economic Development Ad Hoc Subcommittee, Strategic Plan is the first two years of programs and initiatives supporting long-term economic development in Foster City.

Assistant City Manager Hall stated, “one of the greatest attributes of the City of Foster City is its ability to nimble and responsive to our community.” The Strategic Plan follows guiding principles based on maintaining positive, ongoing relationships with the business community and economic development stakeholders; creating and sustain a safe, clean, green, and fiscally sound business environment that benefits all those that live, work and play in this City; supporting the health and growth of businesses, especially in the areas of business intelligence and training, workforce development, workforce housing, and access to capital; continuing to invest in public infrastructure that commercial and residential property owners need to thrive; and improving Foster City’s transportation network to address traffic congestion for commuters and residents. Councilmember Sam Hindi said of the strategic plan, “through outreach to businesses and residents, your input and feedback helped shape the plan you have in front of you today.”

Vice Mayor Charlie Bronitsky said during the City Council meeting, “today is the day we start to build momentum in economic development for Foster City. It’s very exciting. Everyone who lives here, everyone who works here will benefit from it in some way.”

One of the first initiatives approved by Council on Monday night from the Strategic Plan and in the area of transportation & circulation networking, is a partnership with SCOOP technologies, a carpooling connection service app. In early October, Foster City and SCOOP will be rolling out a partnership to provide incentives to commuters who choose carpooling over traditional single-rider trips in and out of Foster City.
