Several news agencies have requested information regarding the Foster City Fire Department's response to the Limo Fire incident on the San Mateo Bridge on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Foster City Fire units were dispatched at 10:12:46 pm heading eastbound, along with Hayward Fire units dispatched westbound. Foster City units entered the San Mateo Bridge by 10:18:07 pm, approximately five minutes after dispatch. While enroute, Foster City units confirmed the location of the incident as westbound Highway 92, west of the high-rise. Foster City units continued to the emergency turn around and then headed westbound to arrive first on scene at 10:23:27 pm, approximately 10 minutes and 41 seconds after dispatch. Once Foster City units arrived on scene they were able to completely close traffic in the westbound direction allowing additional resources to arrive from the west.
In order to ensure the safety of other drivers and fire personnel, the emergency turn-around is used to allow fire crews to reduce response times while maintaining incident safety. The emergency turnaround is located at the base of the bridge high-rise, 2 miles from the bridge entrance at Foster City.
