The City of Foster City has announced that some of the existing grass fields at Sea Cloud Park and the grass soccer field at Port Royal Park will be closed and unavailable for public use from March 5, 2012 to September 7, 2012 due to park improvement projects. The restroom at Sea Cloud Park will remain open for public use.
New synthetic turf fields will replace the existing grass soccer and baseball field areas at Sea Cloud Park (B-3, B-4, and S-4) and the soccer field at Port Royal Park. Additionally, a perimeter walking track will be added around the Port Royal synthetic soccer field.
The projects will begin on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 8:00 AM with the erection of safety fencing around the perimeter of all work areas at both sites. The phases of work include:
Removal of old turf and soil
Grading and drainage work
Irrigation renovation and landscaping perimeter areas
Installation of new synthetic turf (Field Turf) at both sites
Installation of new amenities such as benches, tables, and drinking fountains
Installation of a walking track around the Port Royal Park soccer field
Both projects will be managed by the Parks and Recreation Department. The general contractor performing work on both of these projects, Top Grade Construction, has been selected through a thorough and extensive bid process.
During the construction period, youth sports organizations AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization), PYSC (Peninsula Youth Soccer Club), and FCYB (Foster City Youth Baseball) will adjust their schedules for alternate field use locations. Their valuable input and patience relating to these projects has been greatly appreciated.
Also, these organized youth soccer and baseball groups have made substantial monetary contributions toward these projects through the Foster City Foundation Fund. These contributions are applied specifically to the construction of these new synthetic turf soccer and baseball fields.
