Council Member Art Kiesel joined 200 city officials from throughout California in Sacramento on April 24 for the League of California Cities' Legislative Action Day. The annual event brings city officials to the state Capitol to meet with their legislators to discuss issues of importance to California cities.
"I am committed to advocating for state policies that help cities effectively deliver services to our residents. During this event I met with Assembly Members Kevin Mullin and Paul Fong and Senator Jerry Hill to discuss issues related to Foster City. The League briefings on key legislation, the state budget and economic development provided invaluable information for our city," said Council Member Kiesel. "I returned to the City of Foster City with information we can immediately put to use for the city."
The event kicked off Wednesday morning with a budget and issues briefing led by San Francisco Treasurer José Cisneros, League Executive Director Chris McKenzie and League Legislative Director Dan Carrigg. Assembly Member Marc Levine also spoke. The morning session concluded with a presentation on the Enterprise Zone program.
Event participants joined in a bipartisan discussion on job creation, economic development and other issues. This panel included Assembly Member Luis Alejo, Assembly Member Chris Holden and Assembly Member Kristin Olsen and was moderated by League First Vice President and San Francisco Treasurer Jose Cisneros who remarked, "Our cities are partners with the state in creating a strong California. We need to restore tools to help revitalize communities, create new good paying jobs and build affordable housing for our residents."
