Since 1999, the City of Foster City Parks and Recreation Department has provided designated areas in the City’s parks system for dogs to run “Off Leash.” However, recently a number of dogs have been observed off-leash in areas or during times that were not designated for “off-leash” activities in City parks.
By ordinance, the City Council has designated five parks in which dogs may be off-leash (but under control) between the hours of 5 AM and 8 AM: Farragut, Boothbay, Edgewater, and Catamaran Parks. In addition, at Sea Cloud Park, dogs are allowed off-leash from 5 AM to 9 AM in the designated “off-leash” area on the southeast side of the park.
A dedicated dog park (enclosed dog run area) is located at Boat Park. This park is located at the corner of Foster City Blvd. and Bounty Drive. It has separate fenced-in areas for big and small dogs, a grassy area, and play apparatus for dogs. Dogs may be off-leash at the dog park during all open hours, but all dogs must be under control at all time. This area also provides evening lighting and is open weekdays and weekends from 6:30 AM to 10 PM.
The City asks all dog owners to abide by the posted off-leash areas and hours; and continue to allow dogs to remain unleashed only in these designated areas. By continuing to utilize these posted off-leash areas, all parks patrons can enjoy the City’s parks in a safe manner.
