Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: A Community Partner
Foster City, CA; February 17, 2010
It is the mission of the Foster City Senior Citizen Advisory Committee to enhance and enrich the quality of life for older adults who live in Foster City. The Committee promotes health, well-being, and independence through recreation, creative activities, and fostering awareness of support services.
In 2009, the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee accomplished a variety of goals to benefit both Foster City seniors and the Parks and Recreation Department. Committee members wrote articles on topics of senior interest in the Foster City Islander on a monthly basis. The topics of these articles varied greatly from informative health information to humorous stories. They also increased communication about Senior Wing programs and services through community outreach. The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee’s contributions to senior programs and community seniors are an asset to the Parks and Recreation Department.
In 2010, the Committee looks forward to maintaining and expanding its goals. The Committee members will continue to reach out to Foster City adult residents who are not utilizing Parks and Recreation services. The Committee will also continue to update and expand resources and information available through the Senior Wing. The Committee will advocate for cultural diversity among the Foster City senior population by identifying as many different organized cultural groups as possible and meeting with their leaders. The Committee also plans to outreach and learn from other senior services by building relationships with other senior center facilities and meeting with their staff and commissions.
It would be the pleasure of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee for the public to attend any of its meetings. The Committee meets the third Wednesday of each month at 4 PM at the William Walker Recreation Center located at 650 Shell Boulevard.
