It is the mission of the Foster City Senior Citizen Advisory to enhance and enrich the quality of life for older adults who live in Foster City. The Committee promotes health, well-being, and independence through recreation, creative activities, and fostering awareness of support services.
During the 2008 calendar year, the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee accomplished a variety of goals to benefit both Foster City seniors and the Parks and Recreation Department. The Committee provided volunteers for a number of special events including the Halloween Festival, Summer Concerts Series, and the Seminar Series. They also advised and provided staff with the necessary resources and contacts to hold an Indian dance performance, which welcomed and educated Foster City residents about different cultures. The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee’s contributions to senior programs and community seniors are an asset to the Parks and Recreation Department.
In 2009, the Committee looks forward to maintaining and expanding its goals. The Committee will increase its outreach efforts to Foster City’s older adult residents who are not utilizing Parks and Recreation services. The Committee will also continue to update and expand resources and information available through the Senior Wing, in addition to advising staff on program development for seniors. The Committee will continue to assist with the Parks and Recreation Department volunteer recruitment program and fundraising efforts for senior programs. The Committee also plans to write a monthly senior interest article for the Foster City Islander newspaper.
It would be the pleasure of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee for the public to attend any of its meetings. The Committee meets the third Wednesday of each month at 4 PM at the William Walker Recreation Center located at 650 Shell Boulevard.
