As of September 29, 2008, Foster City students attending Aragon High School have an easier bus ride home, thanks to schedule adjustments to SamTrans Route 251.
The trip on Route 251 has been shifted so that the bus arrives at the transfer point five minutes later on school days, allowing students traveling on the Route 295 bus from Aragon High School adequate time to transfer for the trip into Foster City on Route 251.
This year, the school district eliminated bus service between Foster City and Aragon High School, leaving many Foster City students with no choice but to drive or carpool to class. Taking public transit between Foster City and Aragon proved difficult, as the connection between Route 295 and Route 251 was not coordinated.
This issue was brought to the attention of the City Council’s Ad Hoc Transportation Committee. Working together with the City Council, the Transportation Committee and City Staff, SamTrans adjusted the Route 251 schedule to allow for a transfer at Hillsdale Shopping Center.
“This is a much needed service adjustment,” stated Foster City City Council Member Linda Koelling. “It fills a serious gap in transit for youth in our community. The City is committed to providing transportation options for all community members and is pleased that we were able to work with SamTrans to make this solution a reality.”
