Resurfacing and repair of the park asphalt pathways is scheduled to begin the end of September 2009 and is due to be completed in May 2010. Park users are urged to take care when maneuvering around obvious construction sites.
These repairs will help to ensure the safety of Foster City’s park users and maintain a longer lasting park pathway infrastructure. The City appreciates everyone’s cooperation and patience while repair work is conducted.
Repairs of this type are normally considered every seven to ten years. Recent evaluation of Foster City park pathways has highlighted areas with severe cracking, areas that have lifted and others that have crumbling edges. In order to correct these deficiencies (hazards) full replacement will be completed in specific areas. This may include removal of crumbled asphalt, installation of root barriers and plastic header boards in key areas, creation of a sub-base and application of new asphalt. Additionally, a fresh seal coat will be applied throughout the parks and walkways to prolong the life of the asphalt pathways.
Work is planned in sixteen parks during the 9 month project including Arcturus, Boothbay, Catamaran, Edgewater, Erckenbrack, Farragut, Gull, Ketch, Killdeer, Marlin, Port Royal, Recreation Center, Sea Cloud, Shad, Sunfish and Turnstone.
Work is also planned for thirteen walkways, including Barkentine to Mainsail, Barkentine to Yawl, Trimaran to Staysail, Trimaran to Sloop, Decatur to Blythe, Polynesia to Chrysopolis, Harvester to Balclutha, Lurline, Ranger, Tampa to Winchester, Port Royal to Winchester, Pensacola to Hatteras and Arcturus to Polaris.
Rodan Builders Incorporated has been awarded the contract for this project.
