FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Update on Synthetic Turf Projects at Sea Cloud and Catamaran Parks

Foster City, CA; July 1, 2009

Construction on synthetic turf fields at Foster City’s Sea Cloud and Catamaran Parks is on schedule and the fields are expected to reopen to the public as planned on Monday, September 7, 2009.

Construction is still taking place at both parks and there is still a considerable amount of work to be done. The Parks and Recreation Department asks the public to continue to adhere to all signage on construction fencing and refrain from illegally entering these construction areas and playing on the synthetic fields. Violators will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The work that remains to be completed includes:

  • Landscaping – Natural turf and other plant materials will be installed around the perimeter of all synthetic turf areas at both sites. Irrigation, grading, and soil amending will also be in progress.
  • Walking Track at Catamaran Park – Surfacing material for the new track will be installed.
  • Restroom Pathway Renovation at Catamaran Park – The pathway leading to the restroom at Catamaran Park will be renovated with dual pathways leading to the restroom entrance. Restrooms at Catamaran Park will be closed during pathway renovation. A portable toilet will be available for use. Tennis Courts at Catamaran Park will remain open to the public.
  • Storage Shed at Catamaran Park – A prefabricated storage shed will be installed at the exterior rear of the restroom for use by A.Y.S.O. and City Staff.

The soccer fields at Sea Cloud and Catamaran Parks have been closed since March 2009. During this time, new synthetic fields have replaced the existing grass soccer fields.

Both projects are managed by the Parks and Recreation Department. For more information about these synthetic turf projects, please contact Kevin Miller, Director of Parks and Recreation at (650) 286-3388 or kmiller@fostercity.org.
