Foster City to Hold Informational Meeting on Local Hazard Mitigation Plan
Foster City, CA; November 25, 2009
The City of Foster City invites its residents to attend an informational meeting regarding the City’s disaster mitigation plan. The meeting will take place in the Emergency Operations Center of the Fire Department at 1040 E. Hillsdale Boulevard on December 7, 2009 at 1:30 PM.
In compliance with the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000), Foster City has joined with other Bay Area communities and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) to write a DMA 2000 plan for the region. In order to be eligible to receive federal Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for projects related to disasters, local governments are required to have an approved and updated 2010 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP).
The Foster City Annex of the plan is the result of work by key City departments, including Police, Fire, Public Works and Community Development, and includes mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from disasters and their effects, as well as actions the City will follow to reduce vulnerability and exposure to future disasters.
