FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Foster City Lagoon Level Raised to Summer Level

Foster City, CA; March 8, 2011

The Foster City Public Works Department has announced that the water level in the Foster City lagoon will be raised by approximately 8 inches from the winter level to the summer level during the week of March 15, 2011. The date and level are dependent on the forecast of storms. The lagoon level can still fluctuate if storms are forecast after the summer level date.

The City’s Lagoon Management Plan sets standard lagoon water levels for winter and summer periods. The lagoon level is lowered in the winter in order to prepare to accept additional stormwater associated with frequent winter storms. In the summer, levels are raised to accommodate recreational uses of the lagoon waterway. However, if a major storm is predicted, the lagoon level may be lowered in preparation for the storm at any time of year.

If you have any questions about the lagoon levels or Lagoon Management Plan, please contact Interim Public Works Maintenance Superintendent Nick Leonoudakis at 286-3551 or nleonoudakis@fostercity.org.
