The City of Foster City is pleased to congratulate the following inductees to the 2008 Community Sports Wall of Fame: Jeannine Holper, Stu Gilbert and Greg Turtletaub. This award is given in recognition of each of these individuals’ significant contributions to the well-being of the youth of our community through their involvement in the community’s youth sports programs. The induction ceremony for this year’s worthy recipients was held on Sunday, September 7 at Sea Cloud Park.
Jeannine Holper, nominated by American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), served as the Regional Commissioner for Foster City AYSO for three years. She has been involved in coaching for almost 16 years, training both girls and boys teams. Her past honors with AYSO include 2002 “Most Devoted Volunteer” and 2008 Manny Hirschel “Volunteer of the Year.”
Stu Gilbert is also an AYSO nominee. Stu was one of Foster City’s original board members for Region 62. He coached for 10 years and watched his soccer team grow from one team with 12 members to many thousands of players over the years, ultimately making soccer the City’s most widely played youth sport.
Greg Turtletaub had the distinct honor of being jointly nominated by 3 sports organizations: Foster City Little League, Peninsula Youth Soccer Club, and the Foster City Youth Softball Association. Greg was an active board member with FCLL and PYSC and contributed to the founding of FCYSA. His positions included: FCLL President, Vice President, Division Rep, and Snack Shack Coordinator; PYSC Vice President, Field Coordinator, and Picture Coordinator. He introduced and administered the PYSC Kick-a-thon to raise funds for synthetic fields. Greg also coached baseball, soccer and softball teams including all-star and championship teams over the years. He was a 2004 recipient of the Foster City Honors Award for volunteer efforts.
Please join the City and the nominating organizations in thanking these individuals for their tireless efforts on behalf of youth sports programs in Foster City.
